An Inexpensive Leather Jacket Option

August 12, 2022 The Peak Lapel

If you’re in the market for a nice leather jacket you are likely staring down the barrel of a very expensive “gun.” Typically, such things cost well over $1,000, and many will tell you that you might want to add a zero to that number. I have no such jackets, though a nice suede bomber, or black bikers jacket, is somewhere on my wish list (though not quite at the top).

When Angel Jackets reached out asking if I would like to review one of their jackets for this site I was, therefore, intrigued (but skeptical) of their supposed “affordable luxury” leather jackets. Just about everything on their site is $200-$300 — remarkable for anything even close to a quality leather jacket. I picked a light brown suede bomber style, and a few weeks later (after a sizing mishap), the jacket was on my doorstep.

The feel of the lather is, I would say, one step above what you would expect at this price point. I am no expert on leather, so take this all with a grain of salt. Still, this leather is more than wearable. It is not at all obviously cheap-looking, and, again, fits the bill, so to speak. Indeed, cheaper suede leathers are, as a rule, going to look and feel better than the same status non-suede leather would, so in this price range, that is what I would recommend. In all, the leather quality of the suede jacket I got neither blows the mind, nor disappoints.

The fit, though, leaves something to be desired. Despite as a general rule leather jackets fitting trim, this thing is quite baggy, and I even sized down. There is plenty of room in the waist, but worse, the arms flap quite a bit and the armholes are much too low. Someone over there should update the fit patterns to improve this, and they would have much more of a hit on their hands. (This being said, some of their jackets linked above are said to be “Slim Fit” and might fit better than the one I got. Also, I am quite a slender man at over 6 feet and 165 pounds.)

In summary, I think Angel Jackets is worth taking a look at if you’re in the market for a leather jacket (get suede!) and don’t want to break the bank. I have yet to see a better option in this price range.
