GQ will often feature looks that are a bit outside the realm of what we would suggest for most guys here on the site. To many, GQ is increasingly losing its relevance. Still, sometimes they do still really know what they are talking about, and do a great job highlighting some of the better looks out there in modern menswear. Sometimes. This is one of those times, and this is also a new series here on The Peal Lapel where we show you how to achieve these designer-level looks for much, much less money.
So, without any more ramblings, let’s let Mr. Thompson take it away…
As you can see, this is an excellent transitional outfit, and is perfect for the slowly-getting-cooler days ahead. It’s super sleek and intriguing, and is an awesome show of how a single color can be worn throughout an outfit and look killer. It’s something that we wish more guys would try more often. Phenomenal look, and perfectly executed here with accent pieces of both the shoes and the watch. And now, here is how to achieve this look on a more reasonable budget.
White Leather Sneakers by New Republic — $89: For a pair of white leather sneakers that look this good, you simply cannot get them any cheaper anywhere else. New Republic seems to have done the impossible here. Fair warning, we’ve never tried this particular pair in person, though, and have had ordering problems with New Republic in the past (inconsistent sizing, and them shipping the wrong colors / sizes). So, beware. But, from what we here, those that find their right size really do love these things and consider them an excellent value.
Navy Turtleneck by Land’s End — $25: Certainly an underrated destination for menswear. Not everything is so stylish or well cut, but plenty of it certainly is. Especially staple pieces like turtlenecks (and so on). Quality is great, customer service is great, and you can return to any local Sears. Plus, the prices cannot be beat. Definitely something to consider.
Stretch Wool Pants in Navy by Banana Republic — $98: Firstly, these will almost perpetually be on sale. So, you will end up paying much less. Second, these are perfect for this sort of look. The wool will make them warm, but breathable. The slim cut is perfect for this kind of look. And, best of all, the added 3% spandex stretch takes these things to the next level, and keeps them super comfortable. Great offering here by BR.
Harborside Watch by Timex — $85: Beautiful watch at an excellent price point from a reputable brand. And perfect for this outfit. The silver and gold give visual interest, while the navy and gold dial complete this watch with a truly unique look. And it goes perfectly with this sort of outfit. Out of stock?
